KUALA LUMPUR, 21 April 2016 – This coming Ramadan guests will experience a “home away from home” at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s (the Centre) popular ‘Kampung in the City’ private and public Ramadan events. Focusing on convenience, comfort and cuisine, the exclusive buka puasa menu options have been customised by the Centre’s award-winning 51-strong strong culinary team to offer diners the chance to enjoy traditional ‘Kampung Classics’ and contemporary buka puasa fare served right in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
In addition to the venue’s great location, the Centre also offers Ramadan guests a designated prayer room, prayer mats, sandals and on-site ablution facility for Muslims to perform theirMaghrib, Isya’ and Tarawih prayers, allowing guests to comfortably perform their religious responsibilities before breaking fast.
“We always aim to deliver our diners the best possible all-in-one Ramadan experience and this year is no different,” says Angeline Lue, the Centre’s Director of Sales & Marketing. In addition to the on-site ablution facility, “all five of our kitchens; Chinese, Western, Cold, Pastry and Malay, are certified halal by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM), so Muslim guests can also enjoy their Ramadan meal with added peace of mind.
In its efforts to deliver value to guests, the Centre has retained its 2015 price point for its 2016 offering. “Our public buka puasa is priced at RM115 nett per person and is limited to 250 pax per evening, so make sure you book early to avoid disappointment. We also have our private buka puasa banquets for 100 pax or above for clients looking to organise their own event. The private buka puasa have two menu choices, prices range from RM115 nett per person for the delectable Ramadan Al-Mubarak menu to RM157.41 nett per person for the exquisite Ramadan Al-Kareem menu. Clients also have the option to personalise their menus with various ‘Chef Action Station’ add-ons available this year,” explains Lue.
According to the Centre’s Executive Chef, Richmond Lim, this year’s Ramadan offering features the same successful theme as the past two years, ‘Kampung in the City’, but includes a host of new Kampung favourites such as signature dishes mee gulung dengan kuah kari dan “sawang telur” (rice noodles served with curry and topped with a crispy egg), trawangan gado-gado bersama makanan laut goreng rangup (vegetable salad with a tangy-peanut sauce and deep fried seafood), lepat ikan kukus dengan daun kunyit (Malay-style fish terrine wrapped in turmeric leaves), masak lemak tempoyak asam belimbing ikan patin (river fish braised in turmeric fermented-durian coconut cream sauce) and rendang ayam kampung Seri Menanti (traditional chicken rendang with green chili), to name a few.
Elaborating on the Centre’s Ramadan offering, Chef Richmond says, “guests can also look forward to our crowd-pleasing ‘Chef Action Stations’, where local favourites such as mee goreng mamak, Penang char kuey teow, Hainanese chicken rice, seafood cooked in a sweet and sour coconut soup (seafood asam lemak Siam), wonton noodle soup and a selection of steamed, grilled and deep fried fish (bubu ikan) will be available. In addition, guests can enjoy Chicken and Beef satay, wholesome bubur lambuk (rice porridge) and the staple of all Hari Raya gatherings, succulently-spiced rendang tok complete with nasi impit, ketupat and lemang.”

Both the private and public buka puasa menus also offer contemporary and international choices for diners looking for something a little different. The options include Pita Kebab Arab Daging Cincang (Arabic-style minced beef kebab on pita bread), roasted fish Tikka, a range of Italian pasta made à la minute to each guest’s liking, Mediterranean Hickory-Smoked Lamb served with black pepper and mint sauce and Pad Thai (rice noodles stir-fried with seafood, chicken, egg and bean sprouts).
A traditional Ramadan feast would not be complete without the ‘Goreng-gorengan’ station, where diners can enjoy banana, jackfruit (cempedak) and bread fruit (sukun) fritters, keropok lekor (fish and prawn crackers) and other deep-fried treats. Those looking for a sweet conclusion can also finish the night off at the ‘Ice Cool’ station for Ais Batu Campur (ABC) served with an array of condiments and ice cream or delve into the sumptuous serawa durian pulut lemak (durian porridge), local kuih, cakes, pastries, fresh fruits, dates and many more.
The Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre’s private ‘Kampung in the City’ will be available daily throughout the Ramadan month, whereas the public buka puasa is only available from 13 June to 1 July 2016.
